Gone Blonde!

In 2011, the Chargers organization told me that our hair salon would be adding blonde highlights to my "Charger Girl Look". Little did I know I would end up falling in love with it over the years!

However, no one warned me that being blonde actually requires a decent amount of maintenance! Below are some recommendations I have for those of you who are considering going blonde or want some tips on keeping your locks looking great!
GOING BLONDE REQUIRES MAINTENANCE: I get my hair done (foil highlighted and toned) about every 6-weeks. Over the course of those six weeks, my roots grow out and my hair starts to go from being ashy/silver-toned to being brassy/golden-toned! There's nothing you can really do to prevent brassiness from happening. It just does from many factors - sun exposure, daily activity, chemicals, heat application, etc. However, you can slow the process down. One product I use that helps is the Shu Uemura Color Lustre Cool Shades Reviving Balm (click this link to receive 20% off plus free shipping!). I love, love, love this purple shampoo! It smells great and keeps my hair color in-check in between coloring sessions!
GOING BLONDE CHANGES THE TEXTURE OF YOUR HAIR: I've also noticed that over the years, my hair has become a lot more brittle. So it's essential that I use products and processes to help retain it's moisture! First, I only wash my hair at most 3x's a week! Did you know that washing your hair not only dries your scalp but your hair as well?! Doing this plus utilizing the right products helps me maintain a healthy head of hair! Check out this post for a list of products I use to keep my hair healthy.
SEEK THE EXPERTS: I can't stress to you enough how important it is to:
1) get your hair colored at a salon (aka stay away from the box dyes) and
2) get it done by a great hairstylist - most especially if you're you're natural color is far from blonde!
Hair stylists have the right tools and knowledge to help you achieve and maintain a color that is attractive and natural! I highly discourage the use of box coloring, most especially for going blonde! Going blonde is such a tricky process. And many times, people end up having hair that looks super yellow or even orange (yikes!) - yes that was me at some point in high school... smh.
When I moved to NYC I did my research and picked salons that not only had good ratings but used products I liked (L’Oreal Professionnel, Kerastase, Shu Uemera, Oribe). When I returned to San Diego, I sought out a stylist from a salon I used to go to and who just kicks-butt at hair. She not only does an amazing job but uses the best products out there.
Right now, my hairstylist, Telima at Cut Hairdressing (@telimadoeshair) is offering my readers 15% off of their first service with her! Just mention this post!
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any product recommendations, questions about booking Telima, or just have other blonde-issues you want to share!
always,
