Confession... sometimes I'm the worst when it comes to self control.
Rite aid strawberry ice cream?? Yeah right, like I'm going to pass that up.
New dress from J. Crew?? Oy...
A full-bodied Napa Valley Cab Sav?? FORGET IT!! I'm gone!!
This bible verse speaks directly though to having self-control over the words we speak. Believe it or not, this is harder to master than controlling the impulses we have for sweet desserts, or shopping, or wine! I get it, sometimes it can be so hard to hold your tongue when you know that the other person is just not right! I can't tell you how many times I wish I could take back things I've said. Things that have burned bridges or hurt others. And Dear Lord am I sorry for times that I've really hurt others.
But the beginning of self-control starts with our words. If we can master that, we can master self-control over other desires. So I will continue to work on improving this for myself. Because I feel that holding together relationships is sometimes more important than being right.
always,
